๐ Intercultural Training and Museum Education for Kids? Absolutely! ๐ง๐
7/14/2025
Today, I had the joy of co-facilitating a tour at the museum where I work as a museum educator. Our visitors? A very young and wonderfully curious group of students.
With young audiences, it's all about age-appropriate, flexible, and engaging methods- think hands-on exploration, playful treasure hunts, immersive storytelling, object-based learning, and even simple role play. These methods donโt just make culture accessible- they make it alive.
And this experience made me reflect again on a vital question:
When we talk about intercultural competence, why do we so often focus only on adults- professionals, business travelers, or international teams? What about our youngest global citizens?
Children growing up as Third Culture Kids, expats, or in culturally diverse communities are already navigating a mosaic of identities and perspectives- often without a roadmap.
Thatโs why intercultural training for children matters.
It helps them to:
โ
Understand and appreciate cultural differences
โ
Develop empathy and emotional resilience
โ
Navigate change and transitions more smoothly
โ
Build a strong sense of identity in a globalized world
As an intercultural trainer, museum educator, and expat parent, Iโve seen firsthand how powerful it is when we start early- combining interactive methods with conversations around values, culture, and identity. These are the seeds that grow into open-minded, adaptable, and confident global citizens.
Letโs invest in raising not just smart kidsโbut culturally aware, emotionally intelligent ones.
๐ก Have you ever introduced cultural topics to your children or students?
I'd love to hear how youโve sparked curiosity and global thinking in young minds!
