๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ It's all about making choices...
6/3/2025
Having lived in the USA for almost two years now, Iโve noticed how often the concept of choice comes up in conversations- whether it's about career paths, health decisions, or personal lifestyles. The idea that life is shaped by the choices we make is deeply embedded in the culture.
In my role as a museum educator, I often talk about the choices people made in the past- decisions that ultimately shaped history in profound ways. Some of these choices were celebrated, others questioned, and many were shaped by circumstances far beyond individual control.
๐ก Itโs made me reflect on this:
We don't all start with the same options. The choices available to us are often influenced by where we live, the resources we have, the cultural values we grew up with, and the systems weโre part of.
๐ก So the question I find myself asking is:
Who are we to judge the choices others make, when their starting point and circumstances may be entirely different from our own?
True intercultural understanding begins when we recognize that freedom of choice isnโt equally distributed- and empathy grows when we stop assuming it is.
