🇺🇸 The Land of Franchises: More Than Just Fast Food?
10/6/2025
As someone born and raised in Germany, the word “franchise” used to bring one thing to mind: fast food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, or perhaps coffee shops like Starbucks.
Having lived and worked in the U.S. for some time, I’ve learned that franchising in the United States goes far beyond burgers and lattes. Here, franchising is a deeply rooted business model- a way of thinking and scaling. Almost every industry you can imagine offers franchise opportunities: daycare and education, senior care, food and hospitality, cleaning and lawn services, insurance, and even consultants who franchise the franchise concept itself.
Franchising provides a relatively straightforward, efficient, and low-risk way to start a business, an opportunity to be independent, make money, and live the American Dream. It’s a system designed to help people succeed while still being their own boss, supported by a proven concept and recognizable brand.
From a cultural perspective, this model mirrors key American values: entrepreneurship, accessibility, and optimism. It’s about believing that success is within reach for anyone willing to take the leap.
💡How do you perceive the franchise culture in your country? Do you see it as a path toward independence or more as a commercial system?
