π The value of volunteering ...
9/3/2024
I am currently volunteering as board member, publicity manager and leader of a German conversation group for the Birmingham-Bloomfield Newcomers Club (BBNC).
The BBNC is a vibrant non-profit organization with over 270 members from diverse backgrounds, including expatriates from North America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and South America. We also have Americans who have recently moved to the area or who enjoy making friends from different cultures.
The BBNC offers a wide range of activities and events tailored to members' interests. Whether it's over coffee, during card games, through sports, or while participating in community service projects, members connect with one another, build friendships, and share experiences.
We teach each other new languages, customs, and cuisines, fostering a rich environment of cultural exchange and mutual inspiration. Itβs common for cross-cultural, lifelong friendships to develop within our community.
When I relocated to the US last year, the BBNC was a lifeline. It helped me explore my new home in Michigan, boosted my confidence, and provided a sense of purpose in this new country. Knowing that I have a reliable support system has made me feel secure and welcomed.
Now, as board member and activity leader, I am excited to give back to the BBNC and the Michigan community, which I now consider my home. Volunteering with this incredible organization has been deeply rewarding, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a supportive and diverse community.
