πŸ“š Why libraries in the U.S. are so much more …

Ever since I was a young child, I’ve loved going to libraries. The abundance of books and knowledge was both impressive and exciting to me.

While living abroad in Germany and the UK, I made it a priority to take my kids to libraries, hoping they would find their own love for books just as I did. But when we stepped into our first library in the U.S., we quickly realized that here, libraries are so much more than just a place for books. Of course, it’s no longer just books you can borrowβ€”now there are also games, toys, and even surprise boxes.

U.S. libraries offer vibrant, dedicated spaces for children, often including impressive play areas and entire playrooms. Kids and adults alike enjoy story times and live presentations, making the library experience engaging for everyone.

Libraries also provide workspaces and meeting rooms that can be rented, creating a flexible environment for work, study, and collaboration. And if you want to spend the day, many libraries have a cafΓ©. You can even pick up a small gift, as some libraries sell artisan arts, crafts, and other unique items created by local artists.

All in all, libraries in the U.S. serve as true community hubs. Even during the pandemic, libraries adapted quickly to challenges by expanding digital collections and services, embracing new technologies to ensure continued access for everyone. While I know library resources can vary depending on location and tax funding, I’m grateful for the rich experience my family and I get to enjoy here.
