What can I do? … Trust the process.

The photo below shows one of the flashcards that visitors can fill out at The Zekelman Holocaust Center offering ideas on how to prevent genocide. I came across this card just a few days before my family and I had to leave the U.S.- and its message has stayed with me ever since.
Due to my husband’s job transition, we had to leave the U.S. at the end of July for an indefinite period. We had been living there as an expat family: our children went to school, and I had just begun building my career as a culture consultant and museum educator. We had plans for the summer and were looking forward to a return. But now, instead of going back to their school and friends, our children are preparing to start school in Germany.
And me? I’m still processing. Sad. Disappointed. And yet- I’m choosing to trust the process.
Because what else can we do in moments like this?
We feel it.
We live it.
We grow from it.
And we share it …
… because transitions like this are deeply human and deserve space in our professional lives too.
