Why Museum Education is a Meaningful Addition to My Culture Consulting Work ...
2/12/2025
Last week, I started a part-time position as a museum educator at the The Zekelman Holocaust Center. This role wasnโt something I had originally planned for my career, but after just a few days, I can already see the deep meaning and purpose it holds for me.
๐๐ป While my years as a culture consultant and intercultural trainer have been some of the most fulfilling of my career, Iโve missed the energy of working directly with students and fellow educators. Life as a culture consultant can sometimes feel isolating, so the opportunity to engage with students again in a museum setting is incredibly rewarding.
๐๐ป As a German who has lived in many different countries, I have always been welcomed with open arms. However, I am fully aware that this has not always been the case for my home country, Germany. While I cannot change the past, I can use my voice today to raise awareness, educate, and empower visitors- ensuring that the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.
๐๐ป From an intercultural perspective, the onboarding process at the The Zekelman Holocaust Center is particularly fascinating. Experiencing how we are introduced to the subject matter and prepared for our roles as educators adds a new dimension to my understanding of cultural education in the U.S. This experience is already enriching my work as a culture consultant by deepening my insights into American culture and educational approaches.
๐๐ป Iโm also incredibly grateful for the warm and supportive team around me. Shout-out to my colleagues- if youโre reading this, I know itโs only been a few days, but youโre doing an amazing job, and I truly love working with you!
